Measuring
Frontline Top Spot :
There are
about 4 cc's in a container marked for dogs 132 pounds. This is, by far, the
most economical size to use. We have found that the containers are not always
exact in content amount.
I dump the
entire contents of three 132 pound size packages into a 20 cc syringe
(removing the plunger, and firmly holding the syringe upright in one hand,
with a capped needle secured over the bottom opening). Then I carefully
replace the plunger, turn the syringe upside down, remove the needle (this was
just to keep the Frontline from spilling out of the bottom of the syringe) and
carefully plunge the air out of the syringe so that I can accurately measure
the amount of Frontline.
I can now
easily dispense the exact amount of Frontline I wish to use from the 20 cc
syringe into a 3 cc syringe, using the same method of "capping off"
the bottom of the 3 cc syringe with a needle so as not to have spilling thru
the bottom opening. If too much Frontline is dispensed from the 20 cc syringe
to the 3 cc syringe, it can easily be drawn back into the 20 cc syringe with a
needle.
MAKE SURE
TO REMOVE THE NEEDLE FROM THE 3 CC SYRINGE BEFORE DISPENSING FRONTLINE
DIRECTLY ONTO THE DOG!!!!
It is very
easy to dispense the pre-measured Frontline from the 3 cc syringe directly
onto the dog -- easier, in fact, than using the original package -- which can
spill out unexpectedly when the dog moves or jumps, or you "loose the
line" you've separated in the fur to expose the skin over his shoulder
area.
Measuring:
2 cc's
would be enough for a 66 pound dog For a dog in the 50 to 80 lb range, you may
want to measure this amount, then add or subtract one "line" -
(marked for 1/10th cc) for each 3.3 pounds of weight.
1 cc would
be enough for a 33 pound dog Again, add or subtract one "line" (1/10
cc) for each 3.3 pounds under or over 33 pounds.
1/2 cc
would be enough for a 16.5 pound dog.
For smaller
dogs, count each line on the syringe (1/10 cc) for 3.3 pounds.
Remember,
This is a MUCH more precise measurement than the package label offers,
allowing the very LEAST amount of Frontline per the very MOST amount of body
weight. The package label allows using the SAME AMOUNT for dogs within a full
25 pound range! So when you're doing you're weighing and measuring, don't
worry if you may be a tiny bit "off". You're still being a LOT more
cautious than the product manufacture intends for you to be! You're being
careful not to use more chemical product on your dog than is necessary, AND
you're saving money!
Note:
Needles and syringes can be purchased from any pet supply company -- Revival,
Foster & Smith, KV Vet, etc. All can be found on line......
